Video Sunday: Random Encounters

Video games are awesome. And so are musicals. If you put them together, then you are probably going to pull me in and never let me go. Random Encounters did just that since I discovered them nearly 3 years ago. Choosing just a single video I like from them is nearly impossible. Choosing only 6 was just as excruciating too! They have a lot of musicals, featuring Sonic, Pikachu, Pikmin, Pac Man, Angry Birds, Tetris blocks, Minesweeper (YES! MINESWEEPER!) Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, Meta Knight, that dude from Dead Space, that chick from Portal  and more, so I suggest you check their youtube channel if you like what you see from the following videos!

The Best we can be, featuring Angi Viper

Arkham Origins Rock Opera

Hyrule Warrior’s Heart

One Winged Office

4 years and a half ago, I wanted to start a weekly post called Video Sunday, in which I’d post a video about something that really caught my attention. I only did it once though, so would be the second since 2010. Hopefully the third one will be before 2020!

Youtube, hobos and Steam, oh my!

It’s been a few weeks since I haven’t posted a single picture of blog, and I assure you, there is a perfectly good explanation for that.

As Guild Wars 2 related excuses go, I managed to get a sixth character to level 80, leaving me with 2 classes to go. It turns out that they are my least liked classes. (Why else would I leave them for last?) For once, I didn’t feel motivated to level yet another character. I found some fun in completing my WvW Season 2 meta and trying to get into PvP with my necromancer, but then my wrist started to bother me a bit. Considering that I wasn’t feeling so pumped to play, I decided it was the perfect moment to catch a break.

What have I been doing this time? I can assure you I have put my time into good use and I have NOT gone into a youtube frenzy, watching lots of videos and discovering a lot of awesome channels that lead me to watch even more videos. I can also tell you that I have NOT been feeding hobos to wild animals, or used them as cannon fodder and sacrifices to the gods in Scribblenauts. Now I know why it’s called Unlimited.. the horribles things you can do… or I could do if I have done those things of course!

Now, if you are reading this, you might be wondering, “Why am I even reading this?” All I can tell you is… because you’re probably bored?

Anyway, during this break, away from Guild Wars 2, I have been able to give room for some things that made me realize some things about myself.

  • I LOVE MUSICALS. I can’t get enough of them. I have been a huge fan of Random Encounters, who make video game musical parodies, and I recently discovered AVbytes, who cover not only video games musicals, but Disney princesses, and other random things. I think this makes me more of a nerd than I thought it was, and I’m very happy with this.
  • I LOVE ACAPPELLA groups. Loving Pitch Perfect must have given it away, but it wasn’t until I discovered Pentatonix in youtube that I realized it wasn’t just a thing.
  • I LOVE VLOGGERS. What people find so fascinating about people making fools of themselves while talking to a camera? For a while I thought it was a bit silly, but I did manage to find some people I found entertaining to see. In fact, I found Pentatonix while browsing the channel of 2 of their members.
  • I REALLY LOVE HOBOS. This sounds very mean, but I just recently got Steam and a friend quickly send me Scribblenauts Unlimited. It’s not a game I would have bought on my own, even if the idea of it sounded interesting to me. If you haven’t heard of it, the premise is a simple one. You are a kid with a magic notepad, and whatever you write in it comes to life. You can also write adjectives to modify other objects and people. Want to kill that soldier? Add “dead” as an adjective. Want a bigger bang? Summon a Mega Rocket Launcher and shoot him yourself. Want some chaos? Make someone a zombie or a vampire and just sit back (not to close tho) Anyway, the idea of the game is making people happy by helping them. The destructive part is just some side plate. Unless you need to feed a raptor to hep other dinosaurs escape. Just throw a hobo at it and watch it get eaten. It works EVERY time. Volcano needs you to sacrifice technology? Throw a scientist in it. IT WORKS. Barber needs tools to cut hair? give him a chainsaw! Need to feed a cannibal? Give him another cannibal, or a hobo. Or if you are feeling particularly evil, feed him a baby! They are tender and at least they don’t scream like the grown ups. Yes… this game twisted me up a little bit. Before anyone calls for psychiatric help, I already moved on to Trine 2, and I’m starting to appreciate gaming on the PC a lot more since I got a Steam account.

So, after all this random talk, what’s going to happen now? I WILL complete the Guild Wars 2 365 challenge, but I’m not going to start posting pictures like crazy until I catch up. I’ll probably post 2 per day once the motivation to do so comes back. I also want to make a non gw2365 post every 1 or 2 weeks, but I haven’t decided what to focus that on. After all, while this blog has been primarily devoted to Guild Wars 2 lately (and it will stay primarily devoted to it), it’s just one of my many lives. So… yeah. That is all for now. Hopefully next post won’t be a random filler like this one!

Tell me who you follow…

I’m not sure if ther is an English equivalent to a saying we have here in Puerto Rico
“Dime con quien andas, y te dire quien eres” which means “Tell me who you hang with, and I’ll tell you who you are.”
Well, I’m not telling you who I hang with, but I’m willing to share who I follow on youtube. Why? Not only you will notice how odd my sense of humor is, but hopefully, you’ll get to discover a few interesting channels (ahem, Wendy Malcolm, check her videos out) Also, if I don’t post it now, I’ll forget about it for another couple of months. So… yeah.. here we go.

So, in no specific order, here are my subscriptions…

Nigahiga
Ryan Higa is probably one of the first people I subscribed to. While he is very popular in youtube, I found him by chance. You could say his current video style differs greatly from the days he used to film at his house with his friend Sean, and while I miss his “How to be” videos, I still enjoy his more professional(ish?) videos.

Swiftkaratechop
Another youtuber I found by chance, mainly looking for random silly videos, he was still in his hair flicking days. I find it surprising how serious and normal he can be when he decides to. On the other hand that rarely happens on that channel (he has another one) and I must admit, that the constant sexual jokes don’t really appeal to me. His randomness does, however.

Neil Cicieregea
I consider this guy to be a genius. I first discovered him looking for the creator of [url=Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny[/url] song, and I decided to subscribe when I found some of his other videos. Some of them are short, and seemingly senseless, but still funny in my eyes, likeThe Prognosis

Potter Puppet Pals
Definitely one of the main reasons I enjoyed Neil’s channel was his Harry Potter Puppets. The puppets recently got their own channel, but the most memorable ones are still on his main channel, like The Mysterious Ticking Noise.

The Guild
I discovered the Guild first on youtube when they were probably on the third or fourth episode of the first season. Then they struck a deal with Microsoft, and have been uploading their videos elsewhere before posting them on youtube. Still, I’m sure I favorite their music videos when they do upload them on youtube. Have I mentioned that I adore Felicia Day? Because I do.

Jeff Lewis’ five minute comedy show
One of The Guild members recently got his own 5 minute show on youtube. It’s… interesting to see the usually composed Volk in an angrier mood and swearing like a maniac in some of those videos, but I find the first episode particularly funny. Oh, Guild cast members have made special guest appearances as well.

Know Your Meme
What the heck is a lolcat, and where the hek it origined? RocketBoom’s institute of meme takes care of just that: explaining, most of the time in a humorous manner, the origins and effects of numerous memes. They used to be part of the RocketBoom channel, and you can see a list of their episodes and seasons in that channel.

Equals Three
Ray William Johnson’s channel is yet another one I found by chance, but liked it enough to subscribe. He basically reviews 2 or 3 viral videos, picks a question and then shows the best answers of the last questions. You can also learn a few words and phrases you use to confuse or offend your friends, like Squaids, Two camels in a tiny car, Fake and gay, Fayul, and of course, I’m doing your mom.

The Gregory Brothers
I will admit, I hate auto tune, and the rock I live under is big enough for me to not know or care what’s happening in USA (or my own country most of the time), but I do enjoy Auto Tune your news. They have also been the responsible of auto tuning several other videos, like The Bed Intruder Song. Their auto tuning abilities have also been featured in other channels, like equals three, whatthe guild, and the really annoying orange.
And speaking of which…

Really Annoying Orange
You’re an apple. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
While I never clicked on them, I did noticed RAO being featured a lot. And I figured it would be too annoying, if was called… really annoying orange. Fruits with faces? Ridiculous. Then I clicked. Now I find it brilliant. Many internet/youtube celebrities have guest starred as some random fruit who eventually get sliced by Knife (There’s LOTS of fruity gore on these videos! Not for the faint of stomach!)

Electric Spoofalo
It all started when I saw one of their spoofs: Dora the Explorer in Incepcion. Shortly after that, I was browsing their video list, and grew fond of Devon and the gang. They like to make fun of Twilight and Bella’s inability to say a full clear sentence, which is nice too. XD
They mostly focus on certain segments, like Lady Gaga Vlog, where she answers questions, Celebrity Yell fights, and now Dude without phones.

Oh, and they have a a second channel where they show behind the scenes bits, which sometimes can be funnier than their actual videos.

Wendy Malcolm, If you have seen electric spofaloo’s second channel, you probably know who Wendy is and either hate her for being so awkward and annoying or love her for that very awkwardness. I happen to be on the love her side. She has some surpsisingly good, funny and random videos on her own channel, and I think I fell for her too. In fact, she began appearing on Electric Spoofalo’s main channel, as Taylor Swift, and it turns out she can sing! I definitely love her. (I’m beginning to think I have a weak spot for red heads with an awkward sense of humor)

Toboscus
Toby Turner is my most recent discovery. I realized I have seen and even favorite some of his videos without knowing who he was. Just like with Wendy Malcom, I officially discovered him thanks to his appearances in Electric Spoofaloo videos “Dudes without phones” (with Brett the Intern)
Seeing his literal songs for movies and video game trailers, and noticing he’s the responsible for certain Farmville video (which I used to “play” back them) where 2 of the three reasons I had to subscribe him.

VideoWuff
He is my most recent addition. I have to say, that while I have enjoyed his 5 year old reviews on GameTrailers, I didn’t really watch many of them, because for some reason, I don’t watch that many videos there. (Crazy, I know! But when I “friended” people, I just click on blog updates) but now that Mazer is beginning to upload his videos there, there are better chances of me not missing them.
